Andrew S. Hamilton

RICHMOND, Ind. – Andrew S. Hamilton, age 88, of Richmond, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at Reid Hospital. Born July 18, 1920, in Dayton, Ohio, to S. H. and Alvina Hilgerman Hamilton, he lived in Richmond most of his life. Andy was a 1938 graduate of Morton High School. He was a World War II veteran having served in the South Pacific as a Staff Sergeant in the Marine Air Corps. Andy was the former Personnel Director at Richmond Power & Light. He retired in 1990 as Branch Manager of Standard Glove & Safety after 35 years. Andy was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Trustee, and Deacon. He was a former member of the Equity Club, Exchange Club, Richmond Elks 649 and Forest Hills Country Club. Andy enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, watching sports, and was a long-time RHS season ticket holder. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Julia A. “Judy” Hamilton; daughters, Victoria Lynn Wilson of Richmond and Ann Adelle Weddle and husband Robert of Carmel, Ind.; son, A. Patrick Hamilton and his wife Debra of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren of Richmond, Gregory Wilson and his wife Julie, Eric Wilson and his wife Erika, and Bradley Wilson; grandchildren of Columbus, Ohio, Jaclyn Hamilton, Andrew Hamilton, Kate Hamilton, Brittny Pierson and her husband Anthony, and Amanda Stevens; four great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Samantha, Coral, and Marcus; sister, Maxine Ely of Allen Park, Mich.; nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gertrude Hamilton. Visitation for Andrew S. Hamilton will be from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1004 North A St., Richmond. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27, at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Layman officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, is in charge of the arrangements.
