Clifton H. Bowman

RICHMOND, Ind. – Clifton H. Bowman, age 99, of Richmond died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Golden Living Center/ Golden Rule after a short illness. Born Dec. 9, 1908, to Benjamin Franklin and Enid Ethel Harrison Bowman in New Madison, Ohio, he lived in Richmond until 1960 and over 35 years in Ft Wayne, Indiana. Clif was a 1928 Morton High School graduate and earned a degree in engineering from ICS with a focus on advanced drafting. He was a World War II veteran in the Army Air Corps, Air Service Command Headquarters assigned to aircraft engine block test, procedures and design for continental United States and overseas defense. Before entering the service, Clif was a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol and Treaty City Flying Club of Greenville, Ohio. He retired from International Harvester in 1973 after over 45 years in management in Tool Design, Mechanical Engineering Department. He was a former member of First Christian Church in Richmond and a member of First Christian Church in Fort Wayne. Clif was an over 55 year member of Webb Lodge #24, York Rite Lodge Richmond and Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne. Clif’s passion was spending time with his family. Clif is survived by his daughters, Linda Dawson of Palm Springs, Calif., and Janet Price (Terry Murray) of Richmond; three grandchildren, Christopher Dawson of Arizona, Patrick Dawson of California and Stuart Price of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; five great-grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew and many friends. He was preceded in death by his, wife, Rebecca J. Swerer Bowman; parents and his younger siblings, Rober Bowman, William Bowman and Olive Mae Defibaugh. Funeral service for Clifton H. Bowman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond, with Rev. Amanda Hines officiating. Entombment will be in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum at Earlham Cemetery.
