David G. Mathews

RICHMOND, Ind. – David G. Mathews, age 81, of Richmond, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on June 2, 2024, at Reid Health. Born March 16, 1943, to Donald L. Mathews Sr. and Irene Vance Mathews, he lived in Wayne County all of his life and lived in the Centerville area from 1970 until his death. He attended Economy School through his sophomore year and graduated in 1962 from Greens Fork, Indiana. He attended IU East. David retired in 2005 after 30 years of service as a quality engineer at Ford/Visteon. He was a 40-year member of the Sons of the American Legion, Harry Ray Post #65 where he held many offices including offices in the National Organization. David had the honor of placing a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He enjoyed first his family, playing basketball, softball, bowling, and golf. David loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and would do anything for them. He was a member of Full Gospel Chapel. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Loretta L. Mathews; daughter, Karen (Roger) Mayse of Centerville; son, Randy (Tina) Mathews, of Richmond; grandchildren, Brandon (Jamie) Mayse, of Richmond, Ryan (Kasey) Mayse, of Centerville, Jordan (Lindsey) Mathews, of Centerville, Mikayla (Justin) Hendrickson, Lauren (Clayton) Atkinson, both of Richmond; great grandchildren, Livvie and Rhees Mathews, of Centerville, and Norah and Cooper Mayse of Centerville, Emorie and Ellison Mayse, of Richmond, Adaline Atkinson, of Richmond, and Oliver Hendrickson, also of Richmond. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind two brothers, Don (“Sue”) L Mathews of Centerville, and Larry (Sharon) Mathews of Richmond; nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jerry and Daryl Mathews. Visitation for David G. Mathews will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Cox and Pastor Alton Hale conducting the service.
