Donovan R. Blose

RICHMOND, Ind. – Donovan R. Blose, age 81, of Richmond, died Tuesday, October 30, 2007, at Reid Hospital. Born August 27, 1926, in Darke County, Ohio, to Harold D. and Martha Alice Ross Blose, he lived in Richmond most of his life. Donovan was a 1947 graduate of Richmond High School and also was presented a diploma from Eaton High School. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, where he was an aviation cadet and trained as a pilot. He retired in 1974 from the Richmond Police Dept. as Captain and in 1991 from the Wayne County Highway Department. Donovan was a member of Centerville United Methodist Church and a 52-year member of the John W. Hennigar Lodge #64 Fraternal Order of Police. He did everything that any kid would ever want to do: drove a semi, drove a train, drove a bus and flew a plane. He had many stories, including great police stories. He was very interesting to talk with. In 1972 he and his son, Jeffrey, built a covered bridge in their front yard near Centerville and it still stands. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean May Blose, to whom he was married December 26, 1959; daughter, Susan Bell and husband James of Centerville; sons, Michael D. Blose and wife Connie of Lawton, Okla., Patrick A. Blose and wife Peggy of Fort Wayne, Ind., Mark E. Blose of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Jeffrey L. Blose of Centerville; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; stepson, Gary B. Sheets and wife Kristy of Huber Heights, Ohio; brothers, Philip D. Blose and wife Bernie of Richmond and Max A. Blose and wife Sally of Robinson, Texas; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Alice Blose. Funeral service for Donovan R. Blose will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2007, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, with Rev. Max Knight and Rev. Robert Land officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, November 2 at Doan and Mills Funeral Home.
