Dr. John William Egger

RICHMOND, Ind. – Dr. John William Egger, age 79, of Richmond, died Sunday, August 4, 2013, at Ambassador Healthcare. John was born on July 10, 1934, in Hudson, Indiana, to Robert and Dorothy Wright Egger. He received his Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree, and Doctorate Degree from Ball State University. John was a navigator and instructor while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He moved from South Bend to Richmond in 1968, and worked for the Richmond Community Schools until his retirement in 1990, where he served as Superintendent and Principal. He was very involved in the community, serving on the YMCA Board, Richmond Police Department Merit Commission, Junior Achievement Board, Indiana Commission on Vocational and Technical Education, Chamber of Commerce Board, and American Association of School Administrators. John was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Golden K Kiwanis, Yokefellow, and Phi Delta Kappa. He volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club at Central United Methodist Church, where he was Volunteer of the Year in 2004 and 2008, and also at Starr School, where he started the Birthday Club. John enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, bowls, and various items, and fishing. He held his own pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Peddycord Egger, to whom he was married on August 28, 1955; two daughters, Jill (Roger) McCashland of Richmond and Jody (Phil) Marino of Georgia; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Chris Rodal of Richmond; three siblings, Dr. Ross (Lynn) Egger of Middletown, Indiana, Charles Egger of Shelbyville, Indiana, and Ellen (Chuck) Jones of Fountaintown, Indiana; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jacquie Rodal; brother, Bobby Egger; and great-grandson, Nathan O’Maley. Visitation for Dr. John William Egger will be from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Central United Methodist Church, Richmond. Memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Judi Marshall officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
