Harold Ball

RICHMOND, Ind. – Harold Ball, age 86, of Richmond, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Forest Park Health Campus. Born December 12, 1929, in Bristol, Virginia, to Ira and Sadie Daugherty Ball, Harold had lived in this community since 1968. He served in the United States Air Force. Harold worked as an electrician for Dana Corporation, retiring after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose since 1967. Harold was an avid NASCAR, Cincinnati Reds, Indianapolis Colts, and Indiana Pacers fan. He participated in bowling leagues for years. Harold loved gardening and building and racing go-carts. Survivors include his son, Harold A. ‘Tony’ Ball of Richmond; stepdaughter, Debra (David) Lahman of Richmond; stepson, Jack A. (Kim) Toth of Indianapolis, Indiana; granddaughters, Brandi Newman of Centerville, Indiana and Ginger (Charlie) Ferguson of Richmond; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Tim) Edsell of Franklin, Indiana, Scott (Jennifer) Lahman of Batavia, Ohio, Amanda (Brodie) Swisher of Paris, Tennessee, Bill (Dani) Toth of Indianapolis, Indiana, Angela (Gustavo) Mendiola of El Paso, Texas, Chris (Tammy) Ramsey of Middleboro, Indiana, and Ashley (Janell) Ramsey of Fountain City, Indiana; 20 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Robert ‘Bobby’ Steele of Richmond; sisters, Ruby Carmack of Kingsport, Tennessee and Evelyn Shipley, Shirley Tranum, and Eleanor (Charlie) Lipscomb, all of Bristol, Tennessee; brothers, Melvin (Dottie) Ball and Junior (Joyce) Ball, both of Bristol, Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Francis Hughes of Tennessee and Nancy Hogan of Brookville, Indiana; brother-in-law, Ed Bowery of Richmond; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Atwell Ball who died September 2, 2004; first wife, Myrtle Bowery Ball who died March 23, 1980; daughters, Theresa Ball and Terri Steele; parents; sisters, Mae Minton, Jane ‘Susie’ Ball, and Jean Ball; brothers, Roy, Alvin, and Pete Ball; sisters-in-law, Libbie Matthews and Shirley Giger; and brothers-in-law, Gene Atwell, Walter Russell Atwell Jr., Marvin Atwell, and Dick Bowery. The family would like to thank Reid Hospice and Forest Park for the great care they provided. Visitation for Harold Ball will be from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Martin Holman officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
