Henriette Nordsieck Pierson

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Lord called Henriette Nordsieck Pierson, age 99, to her Heavenly home, on September 15, 2014, at Forest Park Health Campus. She was born in Richmond, Indiana, on July 9, 1915, to Henry and Elizabeth Wiesehahn Nordsieck. Henriette was a 1933 graduate of Morton High School and a1939 graduate of Valparaiso University. She also attended the University of Michigan and Earlham College. Henriette was an English professor at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. She also lived in Ladue, Missouri, and New Braunfels, Texas. Until her failing health, she was an active member at St. John Lutheran Church and a former choir member. Henriette was a past member of the German Heritage Society and was very proud of her German lineage. When she was younger, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing cards, and reading. She was the widow of Stuart W. Pierson who preceded her in death in 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Helen Nordsieck and Marie Nordsieck. Survivors include her cousins, Paul Wiesehahn of San Jose, California, Nancy Benner of Richmond, Indiana, and Nancy’s children, Kathy Benner, Kerilee (Mike) Emmenegger, Kyle Benner, and Kimberly (Duane) Baker, and other distant cousins. She is also survived by her special friends, Dr. Homer Timson, Will Spano, Jim and Lannie Stapleton, Mary Jane Stapleton, Debbie Stapleton, Suzie Oaks, Dorothy Atkinson, and Donna Dryden, all of Richmond. A special thanks to those who cared for her, including, Alice Ladd, Veta Bass, Patricia Madden, the staff of Forest Park, and Dr. Kumar. Visitation for Henriette N. Pierson will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church. Following the visitation a funeral service will be held at the church which will be officiated by Rev. James Culver. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery.
