John M. "Maury" Statzer

RICHMOND, Ind. – John M. “Maury” Statzer, age 82, of Richmond, died Thursday, October 29, 2015, at his home in the presence of his daughter and son. Born June 29, 1933, in Richmond, Indiana, to Dewey and Ruth Druly Statzer, Maury was a life-long resident of Richmond. He was a 1951 graduate of Richmond High School. Maury worked for NATCO right out of high school until they closed. He began his career at NATCO as a drafter, working his way up to regional sales manager. Maury then became sales manager for Production Tube Cutting of Dayton, Ohio, retiring in 2000. He was a life-time member of the Elks Club BPOE #649, a Richmond Red Devil Booster, and an RHS season ticket holder. Maury enjoyed watching all motorsports and was an avid golfer. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Margaret “Meg” (Rick) Walton of Richmond; son, John H. Statzer of Indianapolis, Indiana; two grandchildren, Brooke (Todd Baker) Peters of Brooklyn, New York, and Aaron John “AJ” (Allison) Walton of Fountain City, Indiana; great-grandson, Nash Ryder Walton; niece, Ruth Ann (John) Woesner of St. Marys, Ohio; other nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Jim (Penny) Duke; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nazoma A. Bishop Statzer, who died on May 25, 1988; parents; and brother, Omar Statzer. The family would like to offer a special thank you to all of the caregivers who helped Maury for the past two years, Melissa Henderson, Debbie Miller, Donna Hauck, Gina Lane, Kristen Yandl, Dixie Watt, Kathy Henderson, Chad Henderson, James Tillery, and Kim Duggan. A memorial visitation for John M. “Maury” Statzer will be from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life will be held at the Elks Club BPOE #649, on May 27, 2016.
