John M. Williams Sr.

RICHMOND, Ind. – John M. Williams Sr., age 92, of Richmond, died Sunday, September 15, 2013, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born April 19, 1921, in Charlestown, Indiana, to Samuel and Lela Fritzler Williams, John lived in Wayne County most of his life. He was a 1939 graduate of Centerville High School. John was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Normandy Beach Campaign. He was owner/operator of Williams Auto Service, former operator of a Shell Service Station and a Phillips 66 Service Station, and worked at Decca Records. John was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and former member of the Eagles Lodge and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Lillian M. Hamilton Williams, to whom he was married in 1992; children, Ron (Julie) Williams of Richmond and Judy (Norman) Goins Evans of North Carolina; step-children, Carol (Donnie) McCurdy and Tom (Marcia Ferriell) Williams, both of Centerville; grandchildren; Ronald (Lisa) Williams of Indianapolis, Stephen (Kellie) Williams of Richmond, David (Christie) Goins of Maryland, John (Cherrie) Williams III of Richmond, Amanda (Jason) Landrum of Kokomo, Rae Ann (Lee) Schuerman of Centerville, Blaine (Valerie) Williams of Greenwood, Bart (Bailey Dorman) Williams of Fort Wayne; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Grace of Charlestown, Indiana; one nephew; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Joan Harter Williams who died in 1989; and son, John Williams Jr. Visitation for John M. Williams Sr. will be from 12 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Deacon Frank Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
