Johnnie See

RICHMOND, Ind. – Johnnie See, age 83, of Richmond, died Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Golden Living Center – Golden Rule. Born August 28, 1931, in Jackson County, Kentucky, to Henry and Lettie Flannery See, Johnnie lived in Richmond for most of his life. He worked at Richmond Gear Works for 29 years and as a mechanic at Merchanthouse Transportation for 10 years. Johnnie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and REACT of Richmond. He was known by many as “The Lawn Mower Man” for servicing mowers, and he also serviced cars and trucks. When Johnnie was younger, he was part of the Richmond Gear Works Champion Horseshoe Team, coached baseball, and enjoyed golf, hunting, and trap shooting. He loved his vegetable garden, NASCAR, and participating in the Senior Games. Survivors include his wife, Janet L. Atkins See, to whom he was married on July 12, 1952; daughters, Gail (Monty Huddleston) See of Richmond, Janice “Susie” Sullivan of Modoc, Indiana, and Brenda See of Richmond; two sons, Ronnie (Vicki) See and David (Nicki) See, both of Richmond; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Susan, Melissa, Malia, Nathan, and Caleb; six step-grandchildren, Amy, Steve, John, Matt, Karl, and Caylee; nine great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; one step-great-great-grandson; sister, Mildred (Glenn) Potters of Connersville, Indiana; brother, Bert See of Fountain City, Indiana; sisters-in-law, Barb Atkins of Fountain City, Indiana, and Katie Reed of Richmond; nieces; nephews; cousins; many friends; and special friend, “Tubby”, his loving cat. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marie Robinson and her husband Bert; brother, Eddie See; and sisters-in-law, Bonnie See and Jean See. The family would like to thank the staff of Reid Hospital and the Alzheimer’s Unit at Golden Rule. Visitation for Johnnie See will be from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Curt Nies officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
