Lillie "Woo-Woo" Murphy Steen

RICHMOND, Ind. – Lillie “Woo-Woo” Murphy Steen, age 82, of Richmond, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at Forest Park Health Care Center after valiantly battling multiple health problems for many years. Born January 12, 1925, in Hamilton, Ohio, Lillie was the only child of Rev. Leonard and Bessie Addison Murphy. She attended school in Cincinnati, Ohio. She lived most of her life in Indiana and had worked as a Psychiatric Attendant at Muscatatuck State Hospital in Butlerville, Indiana, for 18 years before transferring to Richmond State Hospital in 1980. She retired from there in 1983. She was a member of the Nazarene Church and had attended the Life Gate Ministries, Salisbury Rd., Richmond. She was known as “Woo-Woo” by her family and those closest to her, and she will be missed greatly for her generous ways. She was a loving mother, a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother, and a person who delighted in her family and her faith. She was a fun-loving extrovert who lived life to the fullest. She loved chocolate, red hair, purses, a good laugh, and her dog, Chico. She was a faithful and true friend to her church family and her dearest friends. Survivors include her only child, daughter, Patricia Wilson Ball and her husband Leonard of Richmond; two granddaughters, Sandra Plyley and husband Larry Plyley of Richmond; Anna Beach and husband Jeff Beach of Centerville; one grandson, Lenny H. Ball and wife Karen Murphy Ball of Centerville; and five great-grandchildren, Derek Plyley of Richmond, Casey Beach of Indianapolis, Indiana, Cody Beach, Emily Ball and Ryan Ball all of Centerville. She was first married to McClellan “Mack” Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Raymond Steen who died in 1982. She is also preceded in death by her dear companion, Ralph Myers who died in 1997. Funeral service for Lillie “Woo-Woo” Murphy Steen will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, Indiana with Rev. Kenneth Riden and Rev. Mark Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the Funeral Home.
