Michael Rodich

RICHMOND, Ind. - Michael Rodich, age 90, of Richmond, died Thursday, December 24, 2015, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born January 21, 1925, in Clinton, Indiana, to Frank and Wanda Lear Rodich, Mike graduated from Clinton High School in 1942; as a high school football player Mike was an Indiana all-state and all-Wabash Valley guard. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from May 19, 1943, through February 26, 1946. Mike received his B.S. degree in 1949 and his M.S. degree in 1955 from Ball State University. He lived in Richmond since 1949. Mike retired from Richmond Community Schools after 36 years of teaching at Dennis Junior High School and Richmond High School. He was the head coach for Richmond High School Baseball and coached Richmond High School Football, which included a number of North Central Conference championships. Mike was a member of the Richmond Golden K Kiwanis Club, Bible Study Fellowship, and Centerville Christian Church, where he enjoyed many church activities. He will be inducted as a coach into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in the class of 2016. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Ann Welsh of Scottsdale, Arizona; sister, Evelyn Bintz of Oregon; niece, Susan Robertson of Oregon; nephew, Randy (Teresa) Rodich of Ohio; great-nephews, Josh, Zach, and Aaron Rodich, all of Ohio; players; students; colleagues; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Ann "Jip" Hutchens Rodich, who died October 1, 2008; parents; sister, Mary Rodich; and brother, Robert Rodich. Visitation for Michael Rodich will be from 12 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Entombment will be in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
