Nancy Lee Ehlers

Nancy Lee Ehlers (Speicher), 85, of Batavia, OH transitioned to her Heavenly Home on August 20, 2023. She was born on September 4, 1937, in Bergholz, OH, to the late Earl and Betty Speicher. Nancy was a devoted and loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend. After graduating from North Canton Hoover High School in 1955 and Kent State University in 1959, Nancy pursued her passion for education and became an elementary school teacher in North Canton, OH. She made a lasting impact on the lives of her students and was highly respected by her colleagues. Outside of her career, Nancy had a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. She was an avid swimmer in her younger years. She loved sports and was a dedicated supporter of her children and grandchildren, attending all their sporting events. She enjoyed watching the NCAA March Madness every year and watching football at all levels. Nancy had a fondness for crafting and collecting any item that displayed a Bald Eagle. She took great pleasure in attending any event involving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing the time spent with them. Nancy had a strong Christian faith and strived to be a living testimony to the teaching of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Grace Brethren Church. Nancy is survived by her three children, Gregory (Jennifer) Ehlers of Richmond, IN, Eric (Tanya) Ehlers of Henderson NV, and Joel (Marcie) Ehlers of Cincinnati, OH; her brothers, Jeffery Speicher of Washington DC, Bruce (Nancy) Speicher of Dublin, OH, and Douglas Speicher of Sweden; her eight grandchildren William (Mandy) Ehlers, Emily (Jon) Junger, Jonathan Ehlers, Erica Ehlers, James Ehlers, Andrew Ehlers, Matthew Ehlers, and Olivia Ehlers; her four great-grandchildren, Winston Ehlers, Penelope Ehlers, Leo Junger, and Evan Junger; her nieces, Diane (William) Anderson, Kara (Michael) Johansen, Ellen Speicher, and Elise Johansen; and her nephew, Jonah Johansen. Also special in her life were Fernando Montenegro Torres, and her sister-in-Christ, Jackie Hawley-Gentry. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Bonnie Surbey. A private memorial service for family and close friends will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023. Doan & Mills Funeral Home in Richmond, IN, is assisting the family with arrangements. Nancy Lee Ehlers will be remembered for her unwavering faith, and her unconditional love for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
