P. Allan Spencer

CENTERVILLE, Ind. – P. Allan Spencer, age 77, of Centerville, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at his home. Born March 6, 1937, in Portland, Indiana, to J. Paul and T. Nadine Williamson Spencer, he lived most of his life in Centerville. Allan was a 1955 graduate of Portland High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1959 and master’s degree in 1964, in education at Ball State University. Allan served in the United States Navy both active and reserve from 1955-1963. He was a business teacher at Centerville High School and Assistant Superintendent for Centerville Abington schools for many years. Allan was in education for 41 years. He was awarded Educator of the Year for Centerville Abington Schools in 1994. Allan was past president of the Indiana Association of School Business Officials. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Allan was a very active member of Centerville United Methodist Church since 1964, 50 year member and past president of the Centerville Lions Club since 1962, and life-member of the Portland Elks Club #768. He was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sonia Lee Sewell Spencer to whom he was married on June 30, 1963; sons, Shawn Spencer of Little Rock, Arkansas, Brent (Stacy) Spencer of Pompano Beach, Florida, and Chad (Laurel) Spencer of Baden, Switzerland; three grandchildren, Christopher, Henry, and Gertie Spencer; brother, Don (Jane) Spencer of Portland, Indiana; nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kay Williams. Visitation for P. Allan Spencer will be from 1 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2014, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Following visitation at the church from 10 to 11:00 a.m., funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2014, at Centerville United Methodist Church, 112 South Morton Avenue, Centerville with Rev. Jason Morris officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Lions Eye Bank, 727 East 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
