Robert W. Weller

Robert W. Weller, 84, a retired certified public accountant who was managing partner of the George S. Olive & Company’s Richmond office, died March 6, 2011, at home. Bob Weller began working for George S. Olive, now BKD LLC CPAs and Advisors, in Indianapolis in 1950. He moved to Richmond in 1962 with his wife, Margie, and young family to open a new office for Olive. He served as managing partner from 1961 until his retirement in 1991. Active in civic affairs, Mr. Weller served as President of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, President of the Boys Club, and President of Green Acres (now Achieva). During his tenure as Chamber President, Mr. Weller led efforts to help rebuild Richmond following the 1969 explosion. He was a member of Equity Investment Club and a monthly poker club. He remained active in the latter two endeavors until his death. Other memberships included Forest Hills Country Club, Kiwanis International, and Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church; he attended Central United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Indiana Association of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, and a Life Member of the Indiana University Alumni Association. Mr. Weller served as a member of the Indiana University East Board of Advisors. He also taught accounting as an adjunct professor at Indiana University East. A native of Spencer County, Bob Weller was born August 21, 1926, in Dale, Indiana, to Elmer C. and Ina Weller. He was a military veteran of the U.S. Army. Upon his discharge in 1946, Mr. Weller attended Indiana University where he received his BA in Accounting in 1950. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and family gatherings at the beach. Bob Weller was an avid Indiana University basketball and football fan. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Margie Walraven Weller of Richmond; a sister, Laverne Bland of Indianapolis; three children, Marcia Enslen of Indianapolis, Dr. Robert (Ann) Weller Jr. of Brownsburg, and Mark (Katherine) Weller of Vienna, Virginia; and seven grandchildren, Sara Weller Reeves, Amy Enslen, Stephen Weller, Jennifer Weller, Andrew Weller, Luke Weller, and Elizabeth Weller. He was preceded in death by his brother, Waldo Weller of Rescue, California. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Central United Methodist Church, 1425 East Main Street, Richmond, with Rev. Phil Dorrell and Rev. Phil Hodgkin officiating. There will be no public calling. Burial will be at a later date in Lebanon Cemetery, Midland, Indiana. Arrangements are being handled by Doan and Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
