Robert Y. Kinder

RICHMOND, Ind. – Robert Y. Kinder, age 67, of Richmond, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at his residence after a three-year battle with cancer. Born July 1, 1941, in Richmond to William “Jack” Kinder and Eula Ladd Kinder, he grew up here and was a 1959 graduate of Richmond Senior High School. Bob served three years in the U.S. Army (1959-1962), stationed in Georgia, Texas and South Korea. On returning from the Army he served an apprenticeship in printing at the Palladium-Item. In 1969 he became a linotype operator at t he U.S. Government Printing Office in Washington, DC. During that time he also served as the printer/editor for the House Post Office and Civil Service Committee. Bob retired as a printer/proof-reader in 1998 after 29 years of service with the U.S. government. He and his wife returned to Richmond in 2000. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 65. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Frances Holton Kinder; son, Robert W. Kinder of Tumwater, Wash.; daughter, Beth Ann Neuhart (Fred) of Woodbridge, Va.; son, Scott A. Kinder (Jennifer) of Severna Park, Md.; grandchildren, Brian Kinder, Kaitlyn Visser, Anthony Faust, Melissa Rogers, Christina Neuhart, Abigail and Joseph Kinder; Jacob and Nathaniel Edmonston; one great-grandson, Jason Bradley Rogers; sister, Ruth Townsend (Bill) of Richmond; nieces, Linda Adams and Cathy Witte; nephews, David and John Townsend; uncles. John Ladd of Richmond and Jim Ladd of Williamsburg; cousins; special friends, Dale Ude, Willie and Brenda Young, Bruce Hawkins, Paul and Gale Alexander. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother, James Kinder. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2008, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 national Road West, Richmond. Funeral service for Robert Y. Kinder will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 501 South 7th St., Richmond.
